Astrachan
There are two types of Astrachan apples – white and red. Both came from Russia and are known for their initial tartness which mellows over time. This is a variety that will likely not be found in any supermarkets as they do not keep well, softening quickly, making them a rare treat to try when they are just sweet enough but not too far gone.
