Lodi

Lodi

The Lodi is one of those varieties which is not widely grown and which, if you can find a local source (like your farmers market), it is best to secure your supply early.  The Lodi does not keep well so there is a short window of time when they are at their peak.  They are best used for apple sauce and apple butter, and make a nice end product with their pale, tart flesh.

This early ripening variety is from New York and they are a cross between a Transparent and a Montgomery.
