Winesap

Winesap

The winesap is so named because of its tangy tartness reminiscent of the aftertaste of red wine.  It is a very popular apple for fresh eating but particularly well suited for making pies.  It tends to hold its shape when cooked instead of turning soft and mushy.  It has very juicy, firm, yellow flesh and is a reliable bearer in a variety of soils.
